Fantastic article, thanks Dawn! I’m so glad I came across it. I’ve been diving down a research rabbit hole about procrastination lately, and finding fascinating papers about how moderate procrastination may foster creativity and provide benefits we don’t realise.

I suspect that the ‘hustle and grind’ culture we’ve created that pushes being busy over being productive has contributed to the tendency to jump into tasks recklessly.

As well as the strong evolutionary drive for short-term gratification you discussed, the societal presumption that doing things immediately is the best approach seems to be getting stronger and stronger. I really enjoyed reading about the pre-crastination idea, as I’ve not encountered it before. A really unique take, loved it.
